Maternity photography doesn't always have to be soft and traditional. Every so often, a client comes to us wanting something with a bit more personality and a Halloween themed session is one of our favourite ways to do exactly that.
Playful, not spooky
The word Halloween can conjure up all sorts of images, and horror isn't the vibe we're going for. This session was about warmth and playfulness rather than anything dark or eerie, think autumnal tones, a bit of seasonal charm, and a sense of fun that still felt genuinely beautiful, not gimmicky. Pregnancy has its own kind of magic to it and leaning into a seasonal theme like this let us have a bit of fun with that without losing the elegance we always aim for.
Why a themed session works
A themed maternity session gives a client something a little different to remember this chapter by, especially for someone who already has a strong sense of their own style and wants their images to reflect that. It's not for everyone, and that's exactly the point, it's a chance to do something personal and a little unexpected, styled thoughtfully rather than thrown together.

Making it feel considered, not costume-y
The key to a themed session like this working well is restraint. A few well chosen elements, thoughtful colour choices and styling that still flatters and celebrates the bump, rather than a full costume approach that risks looking silly rather than beautiful. We always plan sessions like this the same way we'd plan any other, with the same attention to posing, light and detail, the theme is simply the backdrop, not the whole story.
Is a themed session right for you
If you love the idea of your maternity session reflecting a bit of your own personality or the season you're in, whether that's Halloween or something else entirely, it's worth having the conversation with us early on. We love building something a little different when it's the right fit.
