At Abigail Lewis Photography, we see it every day. Parents arrive for their sessions saying things like “I can’t believe my pregnancy is almost over” or “It already feels like time is moving too fast.”
Nothing dramatic has happened, life hasn’t changed overnight.
But something is already shifting and that’s usually when people realise just how fleeting this stage really is.
Why These Moments Feel Different When You’re Living Them
Pregnancy and the early newborn days sit in a strange space. You’re still in it, but you can already feel it slipping past.
During pregnancy, there’s anticipation, connection and a growing awareness that your body, and your life, is about to change.
After birth, the days blur together quickly. Feeding schedules, sleepless nights, tiny details you think you’ll never forget, until one day you realise you have.
Documenting these moments isn’t about perfection or posing. It’s about acknowledging that this chapter matters, even if it feels ordinary while you’re in it.

Maternity Photography: More Than Just a Bump
Maternity sessions are about pausing long enough to recognise what your body is doing and the relationship that’s already forming. Whether your session feels quiet and reflective or confident and bold, it’s a chance to document a version of yourself that won’t exist in the same way again.
Most of our maternity sessions take place between 28–32 weeks, when you’re visibly pregnant but still comfortable enough to move and enjoy the experience.
Newborn Photography: Capturing the Beginning Without Rushing It
Newborn sessions happen within the first few weeks after birth, usually between 5–14 days old, when babies are still brand new and parents are just beginning to find their rhythm. These sessions aren’t about forcing moments or following a strict plan, they’re about documenting connection, the way your baby fits into your arms or the calm that settles when everything else fades into the background.

Why Planning Matters
When sessions are booked in advance, there’s space to slow down. We can plan your session around you and your pace, comfort and vision, rather than trying to fit everything in at the last minute.
That planning is what allows the experience to feel calm, intentional and personal rather than rushed or overwhelming.
These Images Aren’t Just for Now
Right now, these photographs might feel like they’re for you and they are. But over time, they become part of your family’s story. They remind you of how it felt to carry your baby. How small they once were. How the beginning of motherhood looked and felt for you.
Because time doesn’t slow down but photographs allow us to hold onto pieces of it.
