Most people assume a photography session is something you just turn up to. You book a date, you arrive, someone points a camera at you, and off you go. At Abigail Lewis Photography it works quite differently. The planning starts long before session day, and that is exactly why our sessions feel the way they do.

It starts with a conversation
Every client journey with us begins with a phone call. Not an email, not a contact form reply, an actual conversation.
We want to know where you are in your pregnancy or newborn journey, what you are hoping for from your images, and what kind of experience you are looking for. We also talk openly about our pricing at this stage so there are no surprises further down the line.
That call sets the tone for everything that follows. It tells you that we are personal, that we are invested, and that this is not a transactional process.
The planning meeting
Once you have booked and secured your date, we invite you into the studio for a pre session consultation. This is one of the parts of our process that clients talk about most.
We sit down together, usually with a cup of tea, and we start talking through your session. We go through gowns, colour palettes, props and the overall feel and style you are drawn to. Some clients arrive with a clear vision. Others have no idea where to start. Both are completely fine because our job is to guide you through it.
What this meeting does is transform your session from something abstract and slightly nerve wracking into something tangible and exciting. You leave knowing exactly what your session is going to look like. We leave knowing exactly how to deliver it

What gets decided before you arrive
By the time session day comes around, all of the decisions have already been made. The styling, the setup, the order of the session, the props we are going to use and why. Nothing is left to chance on the day.
That level of preparation is what allows the session itself to feel calm and enjoyable rather than rushed or uncertain. When you are not having to think about logistics you can simply be present and when you are present, that is when the real moments happen.
Why this matters
This season of life moves fast. Faster than anyone warns you about. The bump that feels like it will be there forever disappears. The newborn who fits in the crook of your arm changes almost overnight.
When a session is planned properly, those moments are captured in a way that actually reflects how significant they were. Not just as a record of what happened, but as something that holds the feeling of it.
That does not happen by accident. It happens because someone cared enough to plan it.
